Harris Watson "Harry" Manser |
|
(Note by Wayne G. Manser) Harris Manzer, was born with the surname spelled "Manzer". When he went westward in search of work, he had concerns that his name sounded too German (WWI cause people to be concerned about surnames), so he changed the spelling to "Manser", pronounced Man-sir. He found a job after doing this. No one really knows if his name was the issue in finding work, but he thought it did. He found work, living in Jedore, Sask., as a hand on a fram crew. They went from farm to farm as required. Working on one of these farms, he met Isabella Marthe Bull. She was working off her debt that covered her fare from England. She was sponsered by a family and worked for them to repay the debt. He married Isabella under his new surname spelling, so his descendants were all Manser's. Alan was born there, and Maynard & Russell were born later in Nova Scotia. There were suppose to have been 3 daughters born, but died in infancy. I believe they were born before Alan, as Alan was born 5 years after their marriage, but after is possible for one before they moved back to Nova Scotia. No names have ever been found. Just stories from dad saying he had 3 older sisters who were born & died out west before the family moved back to Nova Scotia.
